Zombies have become a massive part of pop culture over the years and have led people to wonder if it is possible to create zombie like beings.
In the 2005 film, Serenity, we get a close look on what could happen when the government goes overboard in the attempt to fix society.
Serenity, picking up where the television show, Firefly, left off, follows a crew of rebels fighting against the Alliance. Throughout the film however, they are constantly attacked by crazed zombie like people called Reavers. The crew eventually learns that the Reavers were the result of a failed government experiment to add substances to the filtered air supply and make people less aggressive.
Who’s Responsible?
I believe the government is completely responsible for the zombie-like outbreak in Serenity. It may have been an accident, but instead of trying to fix their mistake they covered it up and never came forward about what happened to these people.

No matter if it was intentional or not, the government should step up, admit their mistake, and find a way to solve it.
Going Too Far
There is a definite possibility in going too far in the search for knowledge. It is important to conduct research and understand how our world works to better our future, but when the search for knowledge starts endangering us its gone too far.

In Serenity, an experiment is conducted in the hopes that the government will be able to chemically control people’s aggression by putting calming medications in the air system.
However, this experiment backfires and turns a large majority of the people into aggressive zombie-like beings.
This situation is a perfect example of research being taken too far.
The quest for knowledge should never be taken far enough to where citizens are in danger.
Our Future
Should the government continue experimenting with diseases?
I believe so because there are still a lot of serious diseases that we aren’t very familiar with. With many advances in technology have come many curse for deadly diseases and many lives have been saved.
However, they should make sure that these experiments are contained and don’t cause any harm to anyone.
